Certificate of Verified Sedation Practice
HPCSA accredited by Stellenbosch University (MDB006). Activity number MDB006-MD397-0058-3-2026. 10 Clinical CPD points.
The only SOSPOSA certification that recognises documented clinical experience. Knowledge assessments test what you know. This one verifies what you do.
There are two components. First, a 50-question online assessment covering sedation clinical governance, morbidity and mortality methodology, adverse event reporting, reflective practice, and quality improvement. The pass mark is 80% and retakes are unlimited. Second, the official SOSPOSA Sedation Practice Logbook, covering a minimum of 20 sedation cases, uploaded as a signed PDF.
Cases do not have to be recent. A logbook you have already completed, including one from a previous year, is accepted provided every case is fully documented and the monthly sheets carry both your signature and your Medical Director’s. You already record every sedation case for billing, so for most practitioners this is a matter of transferring cases into our standard template.
Your logbook is then independently verified by Dr Kanellos of the SOSPOSA Executive Committee. Allow up to 10 working days for review.
On approval you receive the SOSPOSA Certificate of Verified Sedation Practice carrying 10 Clinical CPD points, which SOSPOSA submits to the HPCSA portal on your behalf. Your practitioner directory listing is activated and you become eligible for SOSPOSA Shield professional indemnity insurance.
