Professional Self-Appraisal Certificate

The SOSPOSA Professional Self-Appraisal verifies you meet the standards for safe procedural sedation practice in South Africa. Every applicant — whether coming through the Associate pathway or joining directly as a specialist — completes the same 8-gate assessment.

Before You Apply

Adult Sedation CPD course — must be passed before submitting your self-appraisal

Paediatric Sedation CPD course — must be passed before submitting your self-appraisal

Sedation logbook — 20 cases (standard pathway) or 10 cases (specialist anaesthesiologists)

Current HPCSA registration and valid professional indemnity insurance

Life support certification — current BLS, ACLS, PALS, or equivalent (upload required)

Standard Pathway (Associate → Appraised)

You must be an Associate Member before applying. Complete Adult + Paediatric CPD, submit a 20-case logbook, then purchase and complete the 8-gate self-appraisal (R1,950). If you do not hold a formal sedation qualification, your 20 cases must be done under supervision appointed by SOSPOSA.

Specialist Direct (Specialist Anaesthesiologist → Appraised)

HPCSA-registered specialist anaesthesiologists can join as Appraised directly — no Associate membership required first. Complete Adult + Paediatric CPD, submit a 10-case logbook, then purchase and complete the same 8-gate self-appraisal (R1,950). Registration verified after purchase.
