Where do you practise?
Practitioners based outside South Africa join via our International membership. Practitioners working in SA continue with the local pathway.
Are you HPCSA-registered?
SOSPOSA membership is for South African healthcare practitioners registered with the HPCSA.
Are you an HPCSA Specialist Anaesthetist?
Specialists have a different route to membership.
Have you completed Prof Roelofse's sedation certificate or diploma course?
Either Prof Roelofse's certificate course OR the diploma counts.
Do you have a current airway qualification?
Any of these count: ACLS, ATLS, APLS, the SOSPOSA Airway Competency course, or airway competency from your anaesthetic training.
Have you completed the SOSPOSA Adult Sedation Guidelines course?
CPD-accredited, covers adult procedural sedation.
Have you completed the SOSPOSA Paediatric Sedation Guidelines course?
CPD-accredited, covers paediatric procedural sedation.
Have you completed the SOSPOSA Ethics and Verified Practice courses?
Two short CPD modules that round off the Foundation series.
Do you have a sedation logbook ready to upload?
SOSPOSA needs a sedation case logbook: 20 cases for most practitioners, 10 for Specialists. Like your HPCSA cert — one-off upload, then it's on file.

SOSPOSA is the professional society for HPCSA-registered sedation practitioners in South Africa.
